Type cmd in the Windows search bar and then select Run as administrator.

Copy and paste the following command line into the Command Prompt window and press Sending.

msdt.exe -id DeviceDiagnostic

click on After you in the window that appears and the troubleshooter will begin to automatically detect hardware problems.

Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the troubleshooting and resolve the problem with your scanner.

Once this is done, test the scanner again and see if it works properly.


Fix 5: Launch System File Checker

System File Checker (SFC) is a built-in feature of Windows that scans for corrupted system files and repairs them automatically. HP scan may not work due to some corrupted system files, so you can try SFC to solve the problem.

a) Type cmd in the search box, right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.

b) In Command Prompt enter the following command and then press Sending.

sfc /scannow

c) Wait for the verification to complete 100%. This can take some time.

d) Once completed, type exit in the command prompt and press Sending to close the window.

Restart your computer and see if the scanner starts working again.
