Is Windows 10 getting Copilot? Yes, Microsoft plans to bring the AI soon.

  • Microsoft to bring Copilot to Windows 10.
  • The reason is to bring the AI chatbot to more users quickly.
  • Sources also say that the company plans to continue adding features to Windows 10.

UPDATED 11/10/2023: Microsoft plans to bring its Copilot AI feature to Windows 10. According to a report for Windows Central, sources familiar with the matter say that the company is working to add a Copilot button into the Windows 10 Taskbar in the same form available on Windows 11, and the update may arrive soon.

The reasoning for this approach is to make Copilot available on as many devices as possible since Windows 10 is still the most popular version of the operating system, covering 69 percent of the market share in comparison to 26 percent for Windows 11, according to the stats from StatCounter, so for Microsoft, this is the next logical choice.

Furthermore, bringing Copilot to Windows 10 will make it easier for the company to lure developers into building plugins for the experience since it can potentially reach almost 1.5 billion devices (1 billion on Windows 10 and almost half a billion on 11).

It’s unclear how the integration of the AI chatbot will work, but considering that Windows 10 and 11 share many similar components and Microsoft Edge plays a big role, it’s likely that the experience will work much like on Windows 11, where you can use the assistant to ask questions about any topic, summarize web content through Microsoft Edge, create images, and change system configurations. This is in addition to the plugins support.

Sources also confirm that the company doesn’t want Windows 10 to fall behind on many of its innovations. As a result, it plans to bring more new features in addition to security updates and improvements to the older version of the operating system.

Finally, in light of this news, sources familiar with the plan say that internally, the company is still contemplating extending the support of Windows 10 beyond October 14, 2025.
