Microsoft introduces cheaper Office 365 Personal subscription service

While Microsoft already have a subscription based service for Office 365, which was originally introduced in September 2012, and has been growing the number of subscribers ever since. Today the company is offering a new cheaper option for individuals, called Office 365 Personal. It’s a $6.99 per-month (or $69.99 per-year, which saves you $13.98 when paying for the whole year) subscription service that offers access to the suite of Office 2013 desktop applications for Windows, with the option of a Mac and mobile install as well.

The only big difference with the $9.99 per-month Office 365 Home Premium is that this package allows customers to install the applications on up to 5 PCs or Macs, while Office 365 Personal is only available for one PC and one tablet.

When you think about, it’s a good deal, currently Microsoft’s offers a single license for the standalone version of Office 2013 for one PC for $139.99, which only let you install Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote. And for $69.99 per-year you get access to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook, Publisher, Access, 60 minutes of Skype premium, and 20GB of extra OneDrive storage. The new introduction clearly shows Microsoft trying to push a subscription base service of Office, while trying to ditch the standalone version of Office 2013.

On a related news with the release of Office 365 Personal, Microsoft is also changing the name of Office 365 Home Premium to only “Office 365 Home”. However any 365 package will also provide 60 minutes of free paid Skype, 20GB of extra OneDrive storage, and the latest updates of Office.
