Many don’t know that it’s possible add an attachment to a PDF just as we attach files and documents to our emails. With the increasing number of references to other files, it becomes very easy to get lost among them and in this case the attachments which, positioned in the right place, can help you have everything under control.
In this article we will see how to add attachments to a PDF, or rather how to attach a document to a PDF (it could also be another PDF). When the user reaches the point in the PDF document where the attachment is present, they can click on it and read it. With attachments, you no longer even need to insert external links to the PDF.
The (professional) program that we recommend using to insert attachments to the PDF is PDFelement. It is a powerful PDF Editor designed to meet all your PDF management, editing, creation, conversion and optimization needs. Let’s see better how this program works to add attachments to a PDF!

Step 2. Open the PDF in the program
Click on OPEN FILE to select and import the PDF file into the program. You will be able to preview the PDF directly in the central screen of the program and start making all the changes you want.
Step 3. Insert attachment in PDF
To insert an attachment into the PDF you will first need to click on the tab at the top Comment and then on the right on the paperclip icon that indicates ADD ATTACHMENT. At this point, use the mouse to click on the page where you want the attachment icon to appear. Once clicked, the explorer window will open which will allow you to search for the file to attach (from your computer) within the PDF.
You can attach any type of file: for example Excel file, image file, Powerpoint file, Word document, text file, etc…etc….
Plus, you can also customize the icon which will appear in the PDF and indicates the presence of an attachment. In fact, double clicking will open a section on the right of the programProperty” from which you can choose the type of icon, color, opacity, etc…
Step 4. How to open an attachment in PDF
There are two ways to open attachments in a PDF file. One way is to right-click the attachment label on the PDF page, and then click the “Open attached file” to open that particular attachment. The second way is to click the attachment button on the left toolbar and double-click the attachment of interest to open it.
PDFelement allows you to attach not only PDF files, to any page within your PDF file. You just attach as many documents as you may need and they will be grouped into a single file that can be opened, edited and shared just like any other PDF file.
Besides that, you can also add comments to the attachment describing what the attachment is about and provide further instructions, just like in Microsoft Word. Comments can also be used to review PDF documents and provide some answers. If you want to embed a video in PDF, you can always follow the same procedure described above!
