It was only a few weeks back when Dropbox revealed a deal with Microsoft to let users edit Office documents stored in the storage cloud. Just several days back, Android users received an update for Office Mobile bringing Dropbox support; today iOS is getting a similar update.
For those using the Dropbox app on iOS will find a few new features, which will improve productivity while in the move without having to worry about re-syncing. More importantly, users will notice a new Edit button when trying to open a document. When tapped, the document will automatically open with the corresponding Microsoft’s Office app. Once you done editing, the file will sync-up back to Dropbox.
In case you’re creating a new Word, Excel, or PowerPoint document, you’ll have the choice to save the file directly to Dropbox hassle-free.
The new changes are free additions to Dropbox, but Dropbox for Business will need a Office 365 subscription to use the new features.
Currently the new integration is only available for mobile devices (iOS and Android), and a desktop version of could arrive some time in 2015.
